Who We Are
Reclaim Our Schools LA is a coalition of parents, students, families, educators, school staff, civil rights groups, and community organizations fighting to improve access, advance opportunities, and ensure racial justice in public education for all students in Los Angeles.
Our mission is to protect public education from privatization through our vision of transforming neighborhood schools into Community Schools.
We envision every public school to be the heart of the community. We advocate for a Community School model that focuses on the following 4 pillars:
Integrated Student Supports and Restorative Justice
Expanded and Enriched Learning Time and Opportunities Founded Upon Cultural Relevance and Ethnic Studies
Family and Community Engagement
Collaborative Leadership and Practices
What We Stand for
- Fully-funded, fully-staffed public education for all students.
- Resistance against the unregulated privatization of LA schools.
- Racial justice in LAUSD that undoes historic and current impacts of systemic racism, supports the Black Student Achievement Plan, eliminates school police, and creates positive support for students, families, and educators based upon restorative practices.
- Schools that meet the full needs of students, both inside and outside the classroom. Investing in green, climate-resilient campuses, fighting for housing rights for LAUSD students, staff, and their families, and defending the rights of immigrant communities that are a vital part of our schools.
- Safe learning environments that are free from policing and ICE, and that protect and uplift BIPOC and LGBTQ communities.
- A democratic process and oversight for all schools that receive public funding to ensure student success, educator support, and parental/family involvement that includes each participant having a voice in the process.
- Advocating for the highest-need students to receive the resources and opportunities they need, which are also tailored to their community’s needs.
